Our Story
A business built on friendship....
Behind River Dweller there are two close friends. We met at school and have very similar personalities and interests; mainly cars, motorcycles, travel, having the best time in life and of course, watches.
There have been countless times we have travelled the length and breadth of the country in the hunt for treasure; the next car or motorcycle to be saved from the grave (rust buckets according to Barry’s Dad). Some of these finds were pure gold; most were, as John quite rightly said rust buckets and could not be saved. However, we were never deterred and always on the lookout for the next project/road trip.
Watch obsession started early, aged 6 James had saved his pocket money and bought his first watch, a gold pocket watch. He then saved up to buy his first steel sports watch a Tag Heuer, natural progression this lead onto further luxury Swiss made watches, an Omega Speedmaster, followed by a Seamaster, Tudor and then Rolex amongst others.
The thrill of hunting watches soon overtook everything else, we would study and admire the workmanship which goes into such precision instruments, but we realised as much as we love finding them (we are watch enthusiasts after all) we could not keep everything we found and this soon developed into River Dweller Watches or now just River Dweller.
James' outstanding attention to detail and Barry's appreciation of precision engineering coupled with the thrill of the chase has helped us progress to become an independent pre-owned watch dealer.
Our aim is not only to provide the highest quality service to our customers, but also to provide the best possible example of a chosen watch for our client.
To ensure their purchase is an amazing and enjoyable experience.
We want the relationship between ourselves and our customers to be more than just a sale.
Testament to that is our outstanding feedback and the fact many of our clients have become friends that we keep in contact with on a regular basis.
So, why the name...
Deciding on a name is difficult, it's what you are known by after all and it's your brand.
Whilst searching, we looked into our our own names and the area we lived in. We found that one of our surnames had the meaning
"Dweller by the river-banks".
The name was probably brought to England in the wake of the Norman conquest of 1066.
We found this quite Ironic as the town we both live in is on the banks of a river and James actually lives 100 yards from that river.
River Dweller was born.

Fabulous service from a very trustworthy dealer. All the communication was fantastic and I immediately felt at ease during our initial dealings. Jamie also went above and beyond with the personal delivery of the watch. The watch actually exceeded expectations and I honestly could not be happier.
